Schools all over the city are receiving special funding to make more of musical learning in whatever way suits their pupils best. The Music Promise Schools Awards are helping ensure that as many pupils as possible benefit from increased music activity, including inspirational workshops with instrumentalists such as The Ulster Orchestra, performances from visiting artists like Neil Cowley, special events to include professional music recordings school wide of original compositions and high quality instruments and musical equipment which are expanding access for students to traditional and hi- tech music making.
Alongside this investment we are training teachers and giving them brand new skills to keep all this musical activity going post – 2013. In nurseries and pre-primaries, seven thousand young children are taking part in our Musical Pathways to Learning (MPL) programme. Using songs, games and rhymes, it’s introducing them to a world of music whilst boosting their confidence, language and literacy skills too. End of term performances across the city are delighting mums, dads, brothers, sisters and the wider family too.
